Order of April 24, 1776 "muskets and bayonetts of the followind description, to wit: Each firelock to be made of three-fourth of an inch bore, and of a good substance at the breech, the barrel to be 3 feet 8 incheds in length, a good lock, the bayonet to be 18 inches in the blade, with a steel ramrod, the upper end of the upper loop to be trumpet mouthed; and for that purpose collect all gunsmiths and other mechanics, who have been accustomed to make; or assist in making muskets"
