Burgess Repeating rifle 1878

.45-70 Govt. caliber, sporting rifle, 28" round or octagonal barrel, loading port on the right side, S shaped lever, magazine capacity of 9 rounds, marked G.W.MOSE PATENTED OCT. 28.1856, the tang was marked A. BURGESS PATENTED JAN. 7.1873, available as rifle, carbine and musket, production was less than 2'000 from 1878 - 1880, was followed by Whitney-Kennedy

Whitney-Kennedy lever action magazine rifle

Repeating rifle with loading port, top ejection, production was about 15'000 from 1880 to 1886, marked on barrel WHITNEY ARMS CO. or WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY and some have the name KENNEDY added, made in large and small frame and were in rifle, carbine and muskets available, on some modeles a S shaped finger lever was utilized, serial number 1 t0 5'000 and afterwards with a letter prefix A to S and numbers from 1 to 999, was followed by Whitney Scharf

.40-60 WCF, 45-60 WCF, 45-75 WCF, 50-95 Express, 26" or 28" round or octagonal barrel, full magazine was with 9 rounds in standard rifle, Burgess-Tiesing-Kennedy patent

Whitney-Scharf

The gun was manufactured from 1886 to 1888. This was the latest model made before whitney sold his company to Winchester. Winchester stopped immediately the production. About 2000 guns were made. The highest serial number was 1964 and one gun was marked A2.

Whitney-Laidley Style I Rolling Block Action
also known as Split Breech Whitney

After having purchased the right of the Laidley and Emery patents in 1870, Whitney produced several types in various calibers of these Rolling Block rifles between 1871 and 1881. The total production is estimatet at 40'000 to 50'000 units. Target and Sporting Rifle

manufactured in ,38, .40, .44, .45 and .50 caliber centerfire and in .32, .38, and .44 caliber rimfire. Other calibers were made on special orders. The guns were blued barrel and case hardened receiver and hammer, the standard barrel length were 24" to 30" either round, half octagonal or octagonal. The guns were marked on the tang in three lines

It is beliefed that about 5'000 of these Target and Sporting Rifles were made.

The October 17, 1865 patent was granted to James Stillman
The December 27, 1865 patent is that of W.H. & G.W. Miller
The May 16, 1866 patent is that of Laidley and Emery

Creedmoor Rifle No. 1

.44 caliber centerfire, 32" or 34" octagon, round or half octagon barrel, pistol grip, checkered grip and forearm, marked WHITNEY CREEDMOOR, probably less than 100 were made

Creedmoor Rifle No. 2

.40 caliber centerfire, 30" or 32" barrels as above, very small production
