Shattuck Arms Co. respectively C. S. Shattuck Arms Co.

Major Charles S. Shattuck and Andrew Hyde made first guns in Springfield. The factory was the former Prescott Pistol Co., for which Shattuck worked previously. They moved their activities to Hatfield in February 1877. There they went into partnership with Mrs. Mary D. Porter in the Thomas Meekin sawmill, Prospect Stret, Hatfield. Former Crescent Pistol Co., established in 1874. Mrs Porter withdraw her partnership already in 1878.

Shattuck and Hyde continued their business of inexpensive handguns. Hyde was bought out in 1880. Shortly later he came out with his single barrel breech-loading shotguns and a few years later he offered double shotguns. Production of shotguns was so about 15.000/year.

In 1881 the shop burned but was immediately rebuilt. In 1910 the manufacture of guns stopped. In 1910 a four-shot gun turned out but it is unknown for how long.

Shattuck made single and double barrel shotguns with and without hammer. At least Andrew Fyrberg's patent no 498,427, May 1893 was used.

Known is their American Trigger Action model which were odd looking and heavy. It might be of interest that Oscar F. Mossberg was one of Shattuck's employees. Mossberg was founder of O.F. Mossberg & Sons in 1919.
