Dr. Edward Maynard, born in Madison, New York on April 26, 1813, died in Washington, D.C. on May 4. 1891 He would become army officer and entered the U.S. Military Academy at West point but his poor health forced him to abandon shortly after having been accepted. Instead, he became dentistry. From 1857 until his dead, he held the Chair of Theory and Practice at Baltimore Dental College. He was court dentist to the Russian emperor Nicholas I and got a Military Order by the King of Prussia. Besides of his career as dentist, he experimented with firearms and ammunition.
