During a very short period, so bout 1857, some double action percussion revolverse were made. Their manufacturer of these guns is still unknown, but it is believed that IXL is a trade mark of Benjamin J. Hart, gun and sporting goods retailer, operating circa 1848 to 1856 as some IXL are marked with B.J. HART / BROADWAY. So at least he was at least a seller of the guns. IXL could also be a trade makr of Sheffield knife maker George Wostenhold who made bowie knives marked I*XL which means "I excel".
