William Defibaugh was born on November 15, 1814, died June 17, 1891. His parents were Daniel Defibaugh and Mary Defibaugh born Lysinger. William married Elizabeth Smouse in 1838, parents of David Defibaugh, born March 19 1840. Very likely David was later introduced into the gunsmithing trade by his father. William and Elizabeth Defibaugh had three more sons, Lawrence, born 1841 or 1842, Wesley, born November 25, 1843, Milton, born December 6, 1848, they too would had learned the trade of gunsmith. There were also two daughters, Mary, born around 1845 and Sophia, born around 1847. Advertisement appeared on February 16, 1833 in the "Bedford Gazette": "The Subscriber respectfully informs the public that he has commenced the Gunsmithing Business in all the various branches at the residence of the Widow Mary DEFIBAUGH on the Turnpike Road between Bedford and Bloody Run, where all orders in this line will be executed in the best manner and on the most reasonable terms.
